Baptismal Fonts

Baptism is the first of the Seven Sacraments of Catholic Church. The word comes from the greek word βάπτισμα and means “immersion” in water. The ritual has a strong symbolic meaning and represents the death of an self, and the birth of a new christian one. Nowadays Baptism is usually celebrated inside churches; for this kind of celebrations, the Baptismal Font is used. It is a sort of basin which can be made of different materials such as marble or brass. Here they keep the blessed water which is to be poured on the child’s head. Made in a small italian laboratory, these items are available in several sizes and materials. Some are made of gold and finished with gold or bronze.
