Special Virgin of Carmel

The celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, mother of Jesus also known as Virgin of Carmel is on July 16th. We are referring to the Virgin venerated on Mount Carmel by the first friars, who built and baptized their first church for her, placing themselves under her protection. According to tradition, her cult is linked to the devotion of the scapular donated by Mary to a legendary prioress general of the Carmelite order, Simone Stock, with the promise for all those who wear it to be freed from the pains of Purgatory on the first Saturday after death. The brown scapular of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel has been one of the signs of the Church for many centuries. It is a sacramental approved by the Church and accepted by the Carmelite order as "an external sign of love for Mary, of the trust that her children have in her and of the commitment to live a life inspired by her."
