Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins de Bulhões, was a Portuguese religious and priest belonging to the Franciscan Order, proclaimed saint by Pope Gregory IX whose cult is among the most widespread in Catholicism.
In 1946, Pius XII elevated Saint Anthony among the Doctors of the Catholic Church and gave him the title of Doctor Evangelicus, since in his writings and sermons he used to support his statements with quotations from the Gospel.
The great Basilica of Padua was dedicated to him where, on the occasion of the anniversary which coincides with 13 June, the day of his death, an impressive celebration takes place with a large and heartfelt procession.
